Janice Kohler-Curtis, EdD, has been providing structured literacy teaching and training, coaching, and consultation to districts nationwide for 30 years. Dr. Kohler-Curtis is committed to helping state departments of education and higher education, districts, schools, and teachers change the trajectory of their students by improving literacy scores for every child.
With 30 years of experience in education, Janice Kohler-Curtis is a nationally recognized speaker and trainer in the field of literacy and dyslexia. Dr. Kohler-Curtis currently sits on the board of directors as a founding member of The Reading League South Carolina Chapter. Janice is certified through the Center for Effective Reading Instruction (CERI) as a Structured Literacy Dyslexia Specialist. She is a certified Orton-Gillingham Instructor and Practicum Supervisor. Janice is LETRS certified in Units 1-8. She holds a doctorate in reading science from Mount St. Joseph University.
Janice founded Literacy By the Sea, a literacy company specializing in reading science. As the CAO at two successful Orton-Gillingham Consulting companies, she led a large expert team of literacy trainers and consultants nationwide. Before that, Janice was a special education teacher for 20 years, where she successfully implemented Orton-Gillingham with her students and received several awards, including the Walter B. Horn Special Educator of the Year.
